ACLU of MS observes the day with activities that highlight the need for full access into society

Jackson, MS - Transgender Day of Visibility (TODV) is Friday, March 31, 2017. It is an international holiday celebrated around the world, and the ACLU of Mississippi is commemorating the day in Jackson, MS with activities designed to celebrate the talents of transgender and gender non-conforming (GNC) people while raising awareness of the work that is still needed to secure protections and save lives.

Members of the trans and GNC community will be volunteering their time at the Mississippi Food Network (440 N. Beatty Street) in Jackson during the morning. The day will culminate with a live music event at Green Ghost Tacos (2801 N. State Street) starting at 7 p.m. There is no entry fee required, but donations are encouraged. This event is open to the public.

There are more than 15,000 Mississippians who identify as transgender, according to the Williams Institute. The ACLU of Mississippi believes that all citizens deserve to be treated equally regardless of gender or sexual orientation. With a new initiative called Transgender Education & Advocacy Program (TEAP-MS), an extension of the We Are All Mississippi coalition, our efforts focus on strategies that reduce discrimination faced by trans and GNC people by collaborating directly with the trans community to educate the public at-large, media, policy makers, and community.
