The ACLU of Mississippi joined a number of other advocacy organizations in an amicus brief supporting the rights of minority voters in ensuring their opportunity to vote remained preserved and uninfringed upon. The brief called for the Fifth Circuit to affirm the decision of the lower court that, in this specific district, Black voters were being electorally disadvantaged and lacked equal electoral opportunity, which was in violation of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
