What: In the spirit of the Freedom Movements of 1963, we will honor the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington with a Day of Dignity at our Southern State Capitols on August 28, 2013. We have identified this anniversary as an opportunity to claim our history and our legacy of Southern Resistance. Southern organizations are coming together to show our collective force and develop strategies for articulating our demands and dignities. The overall theme of this event is “Strengthening Families and Communities through Equitable Access to Quality Education, Healthcare, Affordable Childcare, Jobs and Housing.” There will be special speakers, an action center, public artwork, social and health service providers and entertainment, including local Jackson artists PyInfamous, 5th Child, DJ Young Venom and James Crow.

When: Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 5:30-7:30pm

Who: A coalition of organizations and individuals, including: One Voice, Mississippi NAACP, American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi (ACLU), Children’s Defense Fund’s Southern Regional Office (CDF), United Auto Workers (UAW), Mississippi Low Income Childcare Initiative (MLICCI), New Horizon Church International (NHCI), the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and the Mississippi Center for Justice.

Why: It has been 50 years since the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. While we look back at what has been accomplished, we must also look forward to what we want our society to look like 50 years from now. NOT HERE NEVER AGAIN in MISSISSIPPI is part of the continuing movement across the south. On August 28, we will DEFINE what is happening in our communities, DEMAND our dignities, and DETERMINE the future of the Southern Freedom Movement in the 21st Century.

Where: South Steps of the Mississippi State Capitol, Jackson, MS 39201.
**In case of inclement weather: War Memorial at 120 N. State St.
