FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The ACLU of Mississippi in partnership with Fondren Presbyterian Church, HRC Mississippi, Jackson DSA, Jackson People’s Assembly, League of Women Voters, Mississippi Center for Justice, Mississippi Immigrants’ Rights Alliance, Mississippi Move, Mississippi Votes, Moms Demand Action, Sunday School Live, TEAP-MS, Tougaloo College, and the U.S. Census Bureau present Vote Your Voice, a non-partisan, grassroots, drive-through voter registration and engagement event that will safely increase awareness, education, voter registration, and turnout efforts in Mississippi.

This event targets historically marginalized communities including LGBTQ communities, communities of color and new voters and will engage both registered voters and non-registered voters in advancing voter literacy. All are welcome.

When:

Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Where:

Tougaloo College, Campus Gym Parking Lot
500 W County Line Rd Tougaloo, MS

During the event, participants can drive through the designated location and stop at various labeled tents to fill out and submit new voter registration applications, update their name and/or address on voter information, gain notarization for absentee ballot applications and retrieve vital voting information about the registration process, polling locations, voter ID law, absentee voting, voter rights and more.

We aim to make voting as hassle-free as possible. A free Notary Public will be on site to notarize any absentee ballot applications and submitted voter registration applications will be delivered to the appropriate local Circuit Clerk’s office promptly.

Safety:

We will take very strict precautions, as related to COVID. Masks and social distancing will be enforced. All drive-through participants must wear masks and leave their vehicle’s front passenger seat vacant with the front passenger window down (unless the vehicle features an automatic window function), prior to entering the event space. Sanitizer will be made available to volunteers and distributed alongside printed voting information and other giveaways, to all who drive through. Additional safety items will be provided courtesy of Dependable Source Corp Center for Community & Workforce Development.

In addition to drive-through participants, attendees will include representatives of the aforementioned partners, Hinds County Circuit Clerk Zack Wallace and Sergeant C. Moses of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.

We invite you to join us as we collaboratively demonstrate the importance of the upcoming election and ensure that WE, the people of Mississippi, are ready to vote our voice.
