Statement on City of Tupelo's Approval of a Chronic Nuisance Ordinance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
TUPELO - "The ACLU of Mississippi stands against chronic nuisance ordinances that penalize landlords and tenants when law enforcement is called too many times to the property. Cities that adopt chronic nuisance ordinances are crippling vulnerable communities even further. These types of ordinances can silence victims of domestic violence, and endanger people with mental disabilities and children. Particularly, studies have found that the laws have been disproportionately enforced against communities of color and black women."
