2018 #msleg Bills We're Still Tracking

Here's a quick look at the bills that are still alive that we're tracking. For a bill to be on the 'calendar' means that the house of origin is ready to vote on it. If it passes on the floor, then it goes to the other house and through the same committee process.

HB 1523 Puts Everyone At Risk. Here's How.

HB 1523, although meant to hurt the LGBT community, actually hurts us all. It allows discrimination based on a “seriously held religious belief or moral conviction” about marriage for same-sex couples, transgender people, or sexual relationships outside of a heterosexual marriage. Although HB 1523 on its face appears to only have an impact on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, it opens the door to discrimination against all Mississippians.  It’s not just anti-LGBT… it’s anti-HUMAN.

Trans Community & Title VII

Transgender people experience unemployment rates three times higher than the general population. No one should be denied an opportunity or services because of their gender identity. That's why we have our Transgender Education & Advocacy Program and we support trans rights and inclusivity. We applaud the 44 U.S. Senators' effort to urge the DOJ to reverse its position on the meaning of Title VII.
