good legislation

This legislation allows eligible voters in Mississippi to register on election day and cast their ballot at their assigned polling place, provided they meet certain criteria. Election commissioners can designate specific locations for same-day registration and appoint extra poll managers to assist with these applications. Applicants must appear in person, swear an oath stating they haven't voted, and present valid photo identification. If their ID does not include an address, they must also provide proof of residency. Once their information is verified through the Statewide Elections Management System, a centralized voter database, they will be recognized as qualified electors. Those registering on election day will receive a special ballot and envelope, processed like absentee ballots. The Secretary of State is responsible for establishing rules and regulations for this new same-day registration process, and existing laws will be updated to reflect these changes, which will take effect on July 1, 2026.
