The bill requires the Mississippi Department of Corrections to convert three existing restitution centers into post-release reentry centers. These facilities will temporarily house individuals being released on parole or early supervision who lack immediate housing, providing supportive services for up to 90 days or until stable housing is secured. Participation is voluntary and not a condition of release. The DOC will manage these centers, along with other reentry programs, to help residents secure essentials such as housing, job skills training, and driver's licenses. The legislation also amends existing laws to exempt these reentry centers from certain residency restrictions that normally apply to sex offenders, allowing greater flexibility in their location.
