Voting is the cornerstone of democracy. It is the fundamental right upon which all of our civil liberties rest. A strong and healthy democracy must include the voices of all citizens.
To register to vote in Mississippi you must:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a resident of Mississippi
- Be 18 years old at the time of the next election
- Live in the town in which you are registering to vote for at least 30 days prior to election
- Not be disfranchised by one of 22 listed crimes

Why should I vote?
Vote to empower yourself, your family, and your community. Vote so that the needs of your community are addressed by those in office. Vote because your voice is important and deserves to be counted. Registering to vote will ensure you are not excluded from sitting on a jury.
Voter Identification
On November 8th, 2011, more than 62% of Mississippi voters approved a citizen initiated Constitutional Amendment that require eligible voters to present a photo ID before casting a ballot in person at the polls or in a Circuit Clerk's office.
Voter ID is required for all elections held in Mississippi.
What's an acceptable form of photo ID?
Any one of the following types of photo IDs may be used on Election Day:
- A driver's license

A photo ID card issued by a branch, department, or entity of the State of Mississippi

A United States passport

A government employee ID card

A firearms license
-
A student photo ID issued by an accredited Mississippi university, college, or community/junior college

A United States military ID
-
A tribal photo ID

Any other photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the United States government or any State government

How Do I Apply?
To receive the Mississippi Voter Identification Card, the elector must complete and sign the application provided by the Registrar and present any of the following forms of identification to the Registrar:

A photo identity document. This means any valid and expired document, containing the elector's name and a photograph that fairly depicts the elector, issued by any branch, department, agency, division or entity of the U.S. government or any U.S. state.

Any documentation which sets forth the elector's full legal name, date and place of bith, including but not limited to a birth certificate.

A Social Security card.

A Medicare card.

A Medicaid card.

Any of the following documents, provided the document sets forth the elector's name and current address:

Utility bill issued within the past 60 days

Bank statement issued within the past 60 days

Paycheck issued within the past 60 days

Government check issued within the past 60 days

A qualified, eligible voter submitting an application for the Mississippi Voter ID Card who is unable to read or write, for reason of disability or otherwise, and who requests assistance shall not be required to personally complete the application in writing, but shall be required to execute the oath. Registrar shall read the application and oath to the voter, and the voter's answers therto shall be written by the Registrar in completion of the application, with voter marking the application, if unable to sign his or her name.

All Mississippi Circuit Clerk's offices are issuing FREE Mississippi Voter Identification card to any eligible Mississippi voter who does NOT of any other form of acceptable photo ID.
