Mississippi Joint Legislative Redistricting Committee (MJLRC)

The Mississippi Legislature is responsible for drawing the boundaries of the state’s legislative districts. Much of that work is conducted by the 20-member Joint Committee on Reapportionment and Redistricting, which reviews redistricting proposals, holds public hearings, and develops proposed district boundaries for consideration by the full Legislature.

Any new legislative district maps must ultimately be approved by both the Mississippi House of Representatives and the Mississippi Senate through a joint resolution. Unlike a bill, a joint resolution adopting legislative district boundaries does not require the governor’s signature to take effect.

The current Joint Committee includes 10 members of the Senate and 10 members of the House of Representatives. Sen. Dean Kirby serves as Chair, Rep. Noah Sanford serves as Vice Chair, and Rep. Rodney Hall serves as Secretary.Committee members represent districts from across Mississippi.
