It censors classroom conversations and discourages youth from civically engaging within their communities, just as they are learning what it means to live in our democracy. This attack on our history is an attack on our democracy.

Students deserve to have a diverse and inclusive education. But politicians claim that legislation like Senate Bill 2113 is meant to avoid situations where students feel discomfort, guilt, or distress on account of that student's race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin. However, this bill does the opposite by censoring inclusive education, whitewashing history, and denying all students the opportunity to have honest, sometimes difficult, conversations that will prepare them to be agents of positive change in the world.
