ACLU of Mississippi works to combat voter suppression, advance pro-voter reforms, broaden access to the political process, and ensure fair political representation of marginalized communities and communities of color.  Our methods include legislative and policy advocacy, litigation, community organizing and media and communications. 

The ACLU of Mississippi is dedicated to promoting, defending, and extending civil liberties to all Mississippians with emphasis on issues related to criminal justice reform, educational opportunities, equal access/equality for all, voter rights, and governmental transparency and accountability. We accomplish our mission through legislation, litigation, and advocacy.


Time Commitment: The communications internship requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week.

Internship Duration: Part-time internships are a 12-week period. Spring interns are expected to start January 10 or January 17, 2022.

Spring:  January/February/March/April

Spring Stipend: A stipend of $3,600 is available for undergraduate students, $4,800 for graduate students. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit. 


The qualified candidate should have the ability to help implement our organization's social media and marketing strategy. Responsibilites might include:

  • Assisting with social media calendar
  • Updating media contact lists
  • Researching relevant blogs
  • Updating website


The internship is open to undergraduate students who will have completed at least 30 hours undergraduate studies before the internship commences or graduate students. Interns should possess the following:

  • Excellent research, writing and communications skills
  • Strong social media skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • A strong interest in civil liberties
  • Familiar with Canva and Sprout Social
