In his keynote address, Lan Diep, a legal advocate for the Vietnamese on the Gulf Coast, discussed problems that community faces as it recovers from the BP oil spill.
Also attending were ACLU clients, including Andre Cooley, a Forrest County sheriff's deputy who filed suit when he was fired from his job after his supervisors discovered he was gay. The ACLU won the case filed on his behalf and Cooley was reinstated. He also received a monetary award. Several people, who had been invited to the meeting by their friends, became members of the ACLU by night's end.
The ACLU of Mississippi would like to thank all the sponsors who helped make the Annual Meeting a success.
